The World of Twine is Changing
Baler Twine Innovation has stagnated in recent years
The performance of large square balers (LSBs) continues to increase, with higher throughput and the ability to produce denser bales than ever before.
In the race to complement the latest technologies, stronger and more efficient twines were needed, however, production methods and materials remained largely unchanged, resulting in the twine becoming the limiting factor for LSBs’ peak performance, a limitation IMPAX easily overcomes.
After 5 years of development and thousands of hours testing in all baling markets across the globe, Tama R&D developed and perfected the IMPAX technology. The essence of this technology is the twines’ ability to absorb the resistance of the crop while withstanding the pressure of the baling forces. During baling, once the bale is ‘tied-off’ and begins to exit the baler, the twine must accommodate the huge pressure in the bale, created by the consistent ‘hits’ (impact forces) from the plunger. IMPAX technology, uniquely, absorbs the massive shock that the expanding crop immediately creates on the twine, once the bale is free of the baler’s pressure chamber. The unique ‘shock-absorption’ of IMPAX technology eliminates the need to make the twine so thick, therefore making tighter knots with longer tails.
Without the ability to resist these impacts, traditional thicker twine reaches its limits and will result in failed knots and broken bales.
Chief Technical Officer, Reuven Hugi, responsible for Tama’s R&D department commented: “Tama’s IMPAX technology creates a smaller diameter twine compared with traditional twine in the same operational segment. A twine that not only flows better in the knotters compared to thicker twines, but also can absorb the impacts and create the secure knots required to make great bales without stopping!
Smaller diameter twine, that can withstand the highest pressure, also means a reduction of up to 20% less plastic per bale as well as being 100% recyclable.
And if that wasn’t enough, the new twine technology contributes to our environmental strategy by reducing plastic usage, recycling, lowering carbon footprint due to work optimization, and most importantly, bringing a smile to the face of the farmers.”
