New Umbilical Pump Boosts Efficiency for Local Contractor

An agricultural contractor based in Alton, Staffordshire, approached T-T Agricultural & Environmental for help after experiencing ongoing issues with their existing umbilical pumping system.

Used for spreading a heavy and fibrous slurry, the contractors reported:

  • Poor flow and, consequently, poor slurry distribution
  • Rapidly wearing pump components, leading to increased maintenance costs
  • Pump and pipe blockages, causing recurrent breakdowns even after repairs

The team were plagued by breakdowns and had to regularly undertake costly and time-consuming repairs so that they could continue working, only for the pump to fail again shortly after.

They came to T-T in search of a solution that would increase spreading performance, reliably handle their heavy-duty slurry and monitor the volume of slurry being spread for more efficient nutrient management.

Working with one of our distributors headquartered close to the client, Johnsons of Cheadle, we specified and supplied a single source solution in the form of a PTH 100KK TTE from Cri-Man, complete with:

  • Galvanised steel frame
  • Recirculation manifold
  • Hydraulic priming system
  • Flow meter

This model of PTH was chosen for its hard-wearing cast iron construction and high head pumping capabilities, achieving up to 155 metres.

Featuring a heavy-duty double chopping system and a multi-channel impeller configuration, this umbilical pump effectively reduces the size of fibrous solids and allows them to pass through the pump without causing a blockage for reliable, uninterrupted slurry spreading and reduced breakdowns.

The client was delighted with the results of their new umbilical pumping system, commenting:

“I recently purchased a PTH100KK TTE pump from Johnson’s of Cheadle to replace our troubled umbilical pump.

As the director of an agricultural contracting business, we're heavily reliant on full operation of our kit.

I'm really pleased with our new umbilical pump as it copes with all aspects of slurry handling and spreading.

Compared to previous umbilical products that I've used from competitors, Cri-Man's PTH copes with much thicker consistencies. The support from my local dealer and T-T has been second to none.”
